The Bethel Empowerment Center, used to be the Bethel Outreach Center, founded by the Bethel AME Church, it closed over 15 years ago. Though the congregation never forgot the effect it had on the community and resolved to reopen the center again. The Bethel Outreach Center offered different services than the current Empowerment Center. The Outreach Center used to have a soup kitchen and served the homeless of the community directly. The Empowerment Center serves those who want to progress and gives or guides them to available programs or resources to advance in life. Instead of a giving the resource for a day, it now aims to give the means to have the resource for a lifetime. The history of the building is tied to serving the community, and will continue to do so for many more years to come.
Mission
The Bethel Empowerment and Wellness Center is committed to facilitating the rehabilitation and revitalization of the Historic Marble Hill community in West Baltimore - honoring its rich legacy while working to build a healthier, more empowered future for all. The center exists to improve the quality of life and well-being of inviduals and families in the Upton community and beyond by serving as a trusted hub that connects people to critical resources and service providers.
